Causes of nasal obstruction
Rhinitis
Allergic
It is IgE mediated immunologic response of nasal mucosa to air- borne allergens
allergic rhinitis affects 10-30% of adults and over 40% of children .it usually presents in childhood. Positive family history of atopy present. Symptoms include nasal congestion , itching , sneezing ,rhinorrhea. It may be of two types seasonal and perennial. Seasonal variety occurs in spring ,summer and fall due to outdoor molds or pollens. Symptoms improve when weather turns cold or after hard frosts. Perennial allergic rhinitis occur throughout the year. It is mainly caused by dust mites , animal dander, cockroaches or indoor mold.

Adenoid
It is nasopharyngeal tonsil situated at the junction of roof and posterior wall of nasopharynx.

- Nasal discharge
- Sinusitis
- Epistaxis
Aural symptoms- tubal obstruction, recurrent attacks of acute otitis media, serous otitis media.
